PlayStation wants Grand Theft Auto VI buyers to remember a perk they may have forgotten. On October 9, the official PlayStation Support account told anyone who pre-ordered or bought the game digitally to claim their free month of GTA+ before the deadline runs out. The reminder is important because plenty of people buy the game, skip the fine print and never claim the month they are owed.
The way the perk works is that anyone who buys GTA 6 digitally on the PlayStation Store, Standard or Ultimate Edition, before November 20 qualifies for one free month of GTA+, Rockstar's subscription service for Grand Theft Auto Online. New, lapsed and existing subscribers can all claim it. Existing subscribers can even stack the free month onto their current plan, which GTA+ rarely allows. Each account gets one claim, no matter how many copies you buy.
GTA 6's free GTA+ month at a glance
Detail | What to know |
|---|---|
Who qualifies | Digital Standard or Ultimate GTA 6 buyers on the PlayStation Store, before November 20 |
What you get | One free month of GTA+, stackable for current subscribers |
How to claim | Open the GTA+ page on the PS Store and follow the steps, it completes at $0 |
Deadline | Claim by March 31, 2027 on PlayStation, a 180-day window on the Microsoft Store |
The catch | It auto-renews at about $7.99 a month until you cancel |
Physical and code-in-box editions get the Vintage Vice City Pack instead of this.
Claiming it takes a minute. After you buy the game, open the GTA+ product page on the PlayStation Store and follow the steps. The checkout completes at $0 and you have until March 31, 2027 to claim on PlayStation, where you can even pick when to switch the month on within that window. Microsoft Store buyers get the same perk with a 180-day window from purchase.
Now the catch, because there is always a catch. The free month auto-renews at the regular GTA+ price, around $7.99, once it ends. Rockstar Games keeps billing you every month until you cancel through Subscriptions Management in your account settings. If you only want the free month, set a reminder and cancel before the next billing date. We already debunked the viral idea that canceling and reordering stacks extra free months, so don't even think about it.
Despite so, what you get for that month isn't half-bad. GTA+ hands subscribers GTA$500,000 a month, free and discounted vehicles, Shark Card bonuses and access to a rotating library of older Rockstar games like Red Dead Redemption, Bully and L.A. Noire. For anyone planning to grind GTA Online in the final weeks before GTA 6, a free month pays off. For everyone else, it is a trial that quietly turns into a bill. The same logic runs through the extra content locked to the Ultimate Edition, which rewards spending more upfront.

The timing explains the push from Sony. Digital pre-orders also unlock the Vintage Vice City Pack and a seven-day preload starting around November 12 and Sony has promoted GTA 6 harder than almost any game in years. The free GTA+ month does three jobs at once for PlayStation. It nudges players toward digital purchases on the PS Store, keeps GTA Online busy in the run-up to launch and converts some trial users into paying subscribers through the sneaky auto-renew policy.
So claim the month you are owed if you already bought GTA 6 digitally and do it before March 31. Just remember what it turns into after 30 days. The window to buy and qualify closes on November 20, about five weeks out and the game itself arrives on November 19.
