The Vercetti Estate, originally known as Diaz's Mansion, is a large property on the southern side of Starfish Island in Vice City. Ricardo Diaz owns it until Tommy Vercetti kills him during Rub Out and takes over the mansion, which becomes Tommy's home and the headquarters of the Vercetti Gang in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. The Vercetti Estate mission strand includes Death Row, Rub Out, Shakedown, Bar Brawl and Cop Land.1

Description

The Vercetti Estate is a large, luxurious mansion built around a two-storey central hall. Its grounds include a rear pool, a hedge maze shaped like the Rockstar Games logo and a rooftop helipad, while the interior contains Tommy's office and several basement rooms. The mansion's scale and position make it a visible symbol of Diaz's wealth and, after Rub Out, Tommy's takeover of his criminal empire. The property is still called Diaz's mansion during Rub Out, and its Rockstar-logo pool sits on Starfish Island.2

The estate returns in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, set in Vice City in 1984, before Tommy arrives in the city.3

Geography and Environment

The mansion stands on the southern side of Starfish Island, the affluent island between Vice City's beach district and mainland. Its waterfront grounds occupy a large part of the island's southern edge, with the main drive facing north and the pool, maze and boat access behind the house.

The estate's most recognizable features are its columned entrance, central staircase, second-floor office, rooftop helipad, rear pool and Rockstar-logo hedge maze. A basement entrance sits in a room at the back of the mansion. After Tommy takes control, the property functions as a safe house and the base for the Vercetti Estate mission strand.1

Population and Residents

The estate is associated with two successive owners and their organizations:

  • Ricardo Diaz: The mansion's original owner and leader of the Diaz Gang.
  • Tommy Vercetti: Voiced by Ray Liotta, Tommy is the protagonist of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. After killing Diaz in Rub Out, he claims the mansion and runs the Vercetti Gang from it.5

GTA VI Comparison

A wide shot in GTA VI Trailer 1 includes a waterfront mansion with a pool and a long central structure.4 Its broad layout resembles the Vercetti Estate, though the trailer never names the property.
