The First GTA 6 Trailer Is About To Pass a Ridiculous New Milestone

GTA 6 stars the franchise's first female protagonist, Lucia, and will see the players go on a long-overdue return trip to the Miami-inspired setting of 2002's Grand Theft Auto entry, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and 2006's Vice City Stories.

Lucia, along with a still-unnamed male lead (some say it's Jason, and they've found the actor, but there's no official word yet), will tear up the streets of Vice City with hints at a potential connection with older games.

Aside from the smorgasbord of franchise hallmarks such as fast cars and beautiful women, the 90-second GTA 6 trailer confirms the game's modern-day setting, complete with a TikTok-like social media platform showing off people partying on yachts, an alligator breaking into a store, and a woman twerking on top of a car moving at what we can only presume are highway speeds.

An unrivaled video game powerhouse, Grand Theft Auto is an institution that has collectively sold 425 million copies across eight mainline installments and seven spin-offs since 1997. To put that into context, the only games that have outsold GTA are Mario (nearly 880 million), Tetris (495 million), Pokémon (480 million), and Call of Duty (425 million).

Despite Grand Theft Auto 5's record-breaking sales and constant updates, including a recent teaser for GTA 6, players have long waited for the next entry to arrive. GTA 6, which comes out in Fall 2025, was subject to an unfortunate mix of leaks and controversies before the release of the official trailer.

It's unclear when Rockstar will release a second GTA 6 trailer. Still, many are expecting one later this year, possibly in conjunction with Take-Two Interactive's quarterly earnings report. Whether or not the next GTA 6 trailer will double down on the Fall 2025 release date of the game remains to be seen.
