Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced is one of Rockstar Games' best releases in recent memory. Unfortunately, that doesn't mean it is perfect. It's been marred by myriad issues, particularly related to migrating save files from Grand Theft Auto V Legacy.

The unresolved problems surrounding the free graphical upgrade has already resulted in it being Rockstar's worst-reviewed game on Steam by far. Even so, perhaps the biggest issue that Grand Theft Auto fans are taking offense to is the unexplained removal of in-game text chat.

The removal of text chat, a feature that has been a staple of the PC version since its launch, has left many feeling disconnected from their fellow players. The absence is particularly problematic for players who rely on written communication. Gamers with hearing impairments or those who prefer not to use voice chat now find themselves at a significant disadvantage.

Text chat was often used to coordinate heists, arrange meetups, or simply engage in friendly banter – all of which are now much more challenging without a keyboard. Rockstar has yet to officially address the issue, leaving players to speculate about the reasons behind the removal.

However, there's good news - it seems that Rockstar is already working out a resolution. A message allegedly discovered in the game files by an anonymous user on GTAForums states: "Text chat option not yet added to Gen9. Coming soon." This hints at a possible return of the feature in a future update, perhaps soon.

In the meantime, players are left to navigate Los Santos on PC with limited communication options. The game's SMS feature and platform-specific chat systems are potential alternatives, but these half-assed solutions are cumbersome and inadequate for the fast-paced nature of online play.

For those who continue to enjoy GTA 5, Take-Two Interactive has confirmed that support for the outgoing title and Grand Theft Auto Online won't stop anytime soon. Take Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has committed to supporting GTA Online even after the release of Grand Theft Auto 6. Unfortunately, it isn't clear if the game will continue to receive extensive updates, or will receive similar 'support' as Red Dead Online.
