Continuing what now seems to be an ongoing pattern of an attempt to broaden the already massive reach of Grand Theft Auto, Rockstar Games just gave its most revealing look at Jason and Lucia yet to a fashion magazine. Grand Theft Auto VI is the centerpiece of LOVE Magazine's Issue 27, a high-end fashion and culture title, which pairs official Rockstar cover artwork of Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval with a set of new screenshots and an exclusive interview with the people writing the game.

It appears to be the deepest look yet at who these two are, arriving less than seven weeks before launch on a magazine that you technically can no longer buy.

LOVE sat down with Rob Nelson, co-studio head and head of development at Rockstar North, narrative senior vice president Rupert Humphries, and writers Elizabeth Gauvey-Kern and Alexa D'Agostino. Where Game Informer's recent cover story dug into map size, weather and wildlife, LOVE went after the emotional core, who Jason and Lucia are and what the game thinks it is about.

The most striking part is how modest the ambition is. Rockstar explains that the pair's version of the American Dream is not wild success or excess, but as something small and grounded, a home for the family and their debts paid off. "We hope people will want to escape into these worlds and these characters," Nelson said, "to get lost with them and in them."

For a series known for over-the-top crime sprees and a protagonist who pretty much was once planned to become Los Santos' version of James Bond, building the leads around paying off debt is surprisingly grounded.

The two are drawn as a study in contrast. Lucia is the driven one, determined to build a better life and unwilling to let obstacles stop her. Jason is a reactive individual who is shaped by the circumstances around him rather than bending them to his will. Both are written as vulnerable, tough and flawed, sometimes right and sometimes wrong and the interview stresses that they learn from each other.

What LOVE Issue 27 adds

Topic
What Rockstar said
Lucia
Driven, set on building a better life, refuses to let obstacles stop her
Jason
More reactive, shaped by the circumstances around him
The American Dream
Modest, a home for the family and debts paid off, not wild success
Leonida
A "pressure cooker for all kinds of insanity," more satirical and grotesque than real life
Realism
Used when it deepens immersion, dropped when it hurts player convenience

The interview is about the story and the people behind GTA 6.

Leonida itself gets the same treatment. The team describes the fictional state as a "pressure cooker for all kinds of insanity," a place that has to be more over-the-top, satirical and grotesque than real life to work. This is where its selective realism comes in, the game reaching for realism when it deepens immersion and dropping it the moment it gets in the player's way. In a world Rockstar spent a decade building, the team insists the density is the whole point, that "no one you meet is an extra."

The new screenshots back that up. Instead of explosions, LOVE's images catch Jason and Lucia in character moments, a diner booth staged like a Pulp Fiction two-shot, a game of pool, a ride on a motorcycle, a black-and-white portrait. There is a neat tension in all of this. The story is apparently about something modest, a family, a home, a clean slate, while the marketing around it is among the loudest the industry has seen. The same month Rockstar is telling a fashion magazine its heroes just want their debts cleared, it has the Miami Heat turning into Vice City on national TV and a near-million-dollar sign bolted to a Miami arena.

The Jason and Lucia cover sold out through KD Presse within minutes of pre-orders opening, ahead of the issue reaching newsstands on October 5 at €25, roughly $28. For a physical magazine in 2026, selling out a cover in minutes is rare, but this is GTA 6 we're talking about.

So LOVE Issue 27 is the piece of pre-launch coverage that treats GTA 6 as a character drama rather than a tech showcase. The systems and the map are likely to sell the first weekend. If Rockstar is right about Jason and Lucia, they could be what keeps people playing long after November 19.
