Grand Theft Auto Online welcomed BattlEye last month and things have gone a lot better than most expected.
While there have been a couple of hiccups—Linux and Steam Deck players still can't access GTA Online, Rockstar Games and Valve are working on a solution—it's safe to say Rockstar's "late" implementation of the anti-cheat software is making the game better and it isn't stopping yet.
Ahead of this week's GTA Online update, Rockstar dropped an unannounced title update, which the community picked up on.
As per this Reddit thread, the unofficial patch notes confirm this is a refinement of how BattlEye works in GTA Online.
Despite all the criticism that BattlEye is a bandaid solution to GTA Online's long-standing cheating woes on PC, the fact that cheatmakers are said to be retaliating by ordering DDoS attacks on official servers confirms that it's working. Not only that, but certain cheatmakers have thrown in the towel. The latest, Stand, is now going open source, as confirmed by @morsmutual on X.
While going open source doesn't necessarily mean that a cheat maker has given up, it does suggest they're starting to see that the days of essentially getting a free pass to make cheats and hacks for GTA Online are long gone.
Between BattlEye and Take-Two actively suing cheatmakers, this sets a precedent for how much better the PC experience of Grand Theft Auto 6 will be.
