A clip of seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton gushing about Grand Theft Auto VI is doing the rounds again, and it's for a good reason. The line everyone is quoting is a good one. Asked about gaming at a fan event, Hamilton called himself a big gamer, rattled off Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed and Gran Turismo, then singled out one game he is actually waiting for. "I'll have to cancel all my work when that game comes out," obviously referring to the next Grand Theft Auto.
Unfortunately, there's a problem with this. Hamilton said it at a Ferrari fan zone during the Belgian Grand Prix weekend back in July 2025, over a year ago. We covered it at the time. The clip is simply making the rounds again now. Why? Because it's about GTA 6 and Rockstar Games is still refusing to talk much about the game three months away from its actual release date.
At the time of the interview, GTA 6 was still targeting a May 2026 release. Hamilton even technically had time to pump the breaks and enjoy the scenery in Vice City because of the gap in the F1 calendar between the Canadian and Monaco Grands Prix.
Unfortunately, we all know the game got pushed back for a third time to its current November 19 release date.

None of this is a knock on Hamilton. He is clearly a genuine gamer, he has talked up the series before, and a celebrity sincerely hyped for a game as huge as GTA 6 is nothing new. We've heard everyone from Mille Bobby Brown to Gaten Matarazzo and, most recently, Lamine Yamal, talk about how excited they are to take a deep dive into Leonida.
The most interesting part here is that a year-old quote is trending again. With Rockstar, as we've already mentioned, showing almost nothing new for months, the internet is reaching back for old material to chew on. After a pair of reuploaded trailers, now everyone's munching on a resurfaced Hamilton clip.
When there is no fresh news, old news gets a second life, and a now outdated joke from an F1 driver becomes a headline.
There is a small irony in the joke itself, too. Hamilton said he would cancel his work for the game, but the game kept cancelling on him. Every delay pushed his imaginary gaming holiday further out. If he had actually blocked off that May 2026 window, he would have spent it staring at a countdown, same as the rest of us.
Speaking of days off, businesses like Burger Motorsports and G-Fuel have confirmed that they're either shutting down or operating with limited manpower come November 19.
