Insider Tez2 is confirming GTA 4's return, but not as a remaster.

Remember when Rockstar Games insider Tez2 mentioned that the developers are working on re-releasing Grand Theft Auto 4? Well, apparently, it is neither a remake nor a remaster.

After getting everyone's hopes up on Monday, Tez2 clarified their comments on a separate post.

According to Tez2, the upcoming GTA 4 re-launch isn't a remaster and he's not sure which platforms it will be released on, what version it will use, and which studio is the one tasked to handle the project.

The only thing that Tez2 can confirm as of the moment of writing is that the mystery GTA 4 project "entered development last year."

A GTA 4 remaster has been rumored for at least a couple of years now. The release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition made it only natural for Rockstar to take fans back to a return trip to Liberty City.

Unfortunately, we've gotten Grand Theft Auto V Expanded and Enhanced and Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced since (not to mention a Red Dead Redemption remaster) and a call from cousin Roman still hasn't come.

With that said, Rockstar does own Video Games Deluxe now after the Australia-based studio "auditioned" by fixing Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition.

What better way to inaugurate the newly renamed Rockstar Australia by tasking them to work on the fan-favorite 2008 title?

Grand Theft Auto fans have long been looking for a way to enjoy GTA 4 and play as Niko Bellic again.

If it comes out soon, it would be a great way to tide audiences over until the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 on May 26, 2026 following the delay.

Regardless of what kind of form the re-release of GTA 4 comes as, we're just hoping it isn't in as bad of a state as previous Rockstar re-releases.

As long as Rockstar can get that right, most wouldn't mind paying another $50 to play GTA 4 or subscribe to GTA+ if it gets added to the subscription service.
