Safehouses and garages serve different purposes in Grand Theft Auto VI. Safehouses open through story progression rather than property purchases. Garages can be bought to store vehicles, but putting a stolen car inside one does not register it as yours.1
Can you buy safehouses?
Safehouses unlock through the story rather than being bought. They are not permanent fixtures: Jason and Lucia are on the run, and their circumstances can change.1 The preview accounts do not list every safehouse or the mission that unlocks each one.
Shared homes and daily routines
Jason and Lucia can share a safehouse while following their own schedules. Like Red Dead Redemption 2’s camps, these places can have other people coming and going; one home shown in the demonstration belonged to somebody else.2
The demonstrated home interactions include eating an apple, throwing its core away and shaving at a bathroom mirror. Basic hair trimming is available at home, while a new style requires a salon or barber.12 In the demonstrated shared apartment, Jason pours stamina-boosting coffee and drinks a health-buffing protein shake.3
While apart, the pair can send messages about heading to bed or locking up when coming home late. Ignoring those messages may affect their relationship.2 The relationship reference explains their time together and apart.
Buying garages and keeping cars
Personal vehicles can be kept at safehouses, and purchased garages provide storage spaces for them. You can buy a garage and keep a stolen car there before you have the means to register it as yours.21 These reports do not establish a fixed number of spaces for every home.
Storage, tracker removal and registration remain different steps. The vehicle theft reference follows entry, starting, trackers and ownership; simply reaching a garage does not complete that process.
The GTA VI Editions comparison lists the garage and vehicle bonuses included in particular packages.
Clothes, weapons and vehicle storage
Personal vehicles can carry spare outfits and weapons, giving you a place to change equipment between jobs.2
Duffel-bag space varies by vehicle: bikes add no storage beyond what you're carrying, cars hold a couple of bags, and vans and trucks hold considerably more.1
Scooter Bros delivers a personal vehicle for a fee. The driver brings your car, then leaves on the scooter they brought with them. Stored weapons can be accessed from the car’s boot.3 The phone apps reference distinguishes that delivery service from taxi travel.
Police attention can complicate retrieval. If officers recognise an abandoned personal vehicle, they can stay near it. You can try to sneak back and retrieve it; if it is left long enough to be impounded, recovery costs more, or you can steal it back from the impound.1
