Steven Ogg revealed he has zero interest in the upcoming sequel and has never played any video game including GTA 5, preferring Dostoevsky novels to the franchise that made him famous.
Steven Ogg has previously mentioned that he doesn't hate his role in Grand Theft Auto V as Trevor Philips, but has now officially gone on record to say that he doesn't really care for it either and isn't particularly excited about Grand Theft Auto 6.
The actor behind the infamous and beloved GTA 5 character recently appeared at a fan convention where he dropped a bombshell that nobody saw coming. When asked by Harrison Shipp about his excitement for the upcoming sequel, his response was as blunt as the character he portrayed.
His answer? Complete indifference. It gets even more surprising - not only does Ogg have zero interest in GTA 6, but he's never actually played GTA 5. In fact, he's never played any video game at all.
Over the years since GTA 5's release in 2013, Ogg has been remarkably consistent about his lack of interest in video games. He once mentioned trying to play a game but becoming frustrated when he couldn't progress past repeatedly crashing into walls.
While GTA 5 co-star Shawn Fonteno, who played Franklin Clinton, has embraced his role and regularly engages with fans online, Ogg's approach couldn't be more different.
When pressed about why he's never tried gaming, Ogg's response was both unexpected and somewhat philosophical. Rather than video games, he explained that books are his passion, even once recommending Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky to a fan instead.
Trevor Phillips is a gaming icon, spawning countless memes, fan art, and discussions as one of the most complex protagonists in Grand Theft Auto history. Yet for Ogg, it seems to have been just another acting job.
He's previously mentioned that while he appreciates the character and the opportunities it brought him, he's sometimes uncomfortable with how strongly fans associate him with Trevor in real life.
His complete lack of interest in GTA 6 might disappoint fans hoping for a Trevor cameo. He's mentioned that if Trevor appeared in GTA 6, he'd want the character to be killed off immediately. We shouldn't hold this against Steven Ogg, of course - fans having weird parasocial demands of talent has become even more of a problem in the internet age.
His professional approach to the role, despite having no personal connection to gaming, resulted in one of the most memorable performances in video game history. Perhaps that's the reason why, despite Ned Luke, who played Michael De Santa, and Fonteno, both also being fan favorites, most will rank Steven Ogg and Trevor Phillips above every other character in GTA.
GTA 6 is currently under development for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X with more information from Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive expected in a few months' time as Take-Two holds its next earnings call.
