Game Informer is teasing something huge for March 25, 2025 after shutting down last August.

Up until a year ago, Game Informer was one of the vanguards of the golden age of video game magazines. Debuting in 1991, it eventually became the "world's largest video game magazine" and, among other things, was known for having the privilege of dropping previews of upcoming Grand Theft Auto titles ahead of other publications. It also shut down almost a year ago, but is seemingly showing signs of life...

A while back, Game Informer was the first media outlet to preview Grand Theft Auto V and drop exclusive info about Grand Theft Auto Online back in 2013, which is precisely why many believe that they're making their return just in time to do it again. Rockstar Games' upcoming blockbuster already has people granting it all sorts of accolades well before release, but bringing back an entire dead publication would be a whole new feat.

In a cryptic post on X, Game Informer teased something for March 25, 2025, over seven months after it published "The Final Level: Farewell from Game Informer", which was their way of saying goodbye to their loyal readers for all these years. Game Informer hadn't been heard from since it shut down, so to see their official social media account, and other former staff members, including their former director and editor, Brian Shea and Wesley LeBlanc, respectively, tease something out of the blue has to mean something.

Given Game Informer's history with GTA, many have taken this as a sign that Rockstar has once again tapped it to be the first to reveal a new trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 to the rest of the world. Video game previews like this almost never happen anymore - you can blame digital media for that. But Rockstar Games could be taking a different route this time around after the official announcement of the first GTA 6 trailer was leaked ahead of time, which it wasn't too happy about.

To make matters worse, the trailer itself found its way on the internet before its scheduled release. Going old-school by working with Game Informer, which already shut down, might be Rockstar's way of catching everyone else off their guard instead of the other way around.

After mostly keeping GTA 6 announcements to themselves and using their official channels to spread the word, working exclusively with a supposedly shuttered video game publication to confirm the release date of GTA 6 makes sense, especially if Rockstar wants to keep everything a secret.

In an ideal scenario, we could see Game Informer dropping the GTA 6 preview on Tuesday before confirming that a second trailer, revealing the game's release date, would be launched on April 1, coinciding with the previous rumors of an April reveal along with a Sony marketing partnership.

Of course, all of this is just speculation, and we don't know what's behind Game Informer's sudden revival. However, as connecting often-imaginary dots has become the favorite past time of the GTA community for the two years, you can't blame everyone (us included) for thinking that this is somehow related to GTA 6.

Besides, March 25 and April 1 are too close to each other not to think that something is going on as that is also when the next fiscal year starts and Take-Two Interactive is expected to spend a boatload of money to market its upcoming games. Thankfully, March 25 is just a few winks away, so we'll know more for sure in just a few day's time if this is indeed all about GTA 6.

We wouldn't be surprised if other companies will join in and ride the marketing wave from now until then. Domino's has already gotten first dibs by effectively daring Rockstar to deliver GTA 6 on time.
