In a brilliant bit of meta-messaging, a new ad uses Dr. Friedlander to manage fan expectations, while strongly hinting the current GTA Online will be supported long after the sequel's 2026 release.

Rockstar Games just released a fresh Grand Theft Auto Online advertisement on their UK and Ireland YouTube channel in what seems to be a deliberate if cheeky attempt at telling millions of excited Grand Theft Auto fans to settle down and wait.

Dr. Isiah Friedlander, therapist to fan-favorite Michael De Santa, opens the advertisement with a telling statement about time not being up yet. For those following every breadcrumb Rockstar drops about the upcoming sequel, this feels like a direct message from the developers themselves.

Rockstar isn't new to this game. They're well aware that their community dissects every frame of content they release, including connecting imaginary dots and coming up with outrageous theories like the infamous moon theory that later turned out to be false (what a shock!). This time, they're making their message heard loud and clear: wait and be patient.

With that said, this may also be Rockstar's way of saying that GTA Online is here to stay, even after the release of GTA 6 on May 26, 2026 following the earlier delay. That said, we doubt anyone truly expected them to pull the plug on the servers of the insanely popular multiplayer service even if the next big thing hits the shelves.

Given the massive success of the game's standalone online component, it makes sense for Rockstar to continue supporting it. Although Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has already confirmed that this is the case, the shrewd executive has also gone out to say that he prefers to let Rockstar do their own thing.

Even if this isn't an outright announcement, the choice of character and words implies that Rockstar will continue expanding the existing game world rather than rushing towards the next installment. If the current online infrastructure continues for several more years as suggested, players can expect continued support and new content for the existing platform. This means more updates, more events, and more additions to Los Santos.

This begs the question, when is the sequel to GTA Online coming out? Previously, GTA Online was made available through Grand Theft Auto V less than a month after the single-player component's release. However, it wasn't after several updates that GTA Online really took off. Perhaps Rockstar wants to avoid that rocky start by making sure that everything is in order first.

Either that, or Rockstar would prefer to launch the next GTA Online in front of as many eyes as possible, which may not be until 2028 when GTA 6 will be available to play on this current generation of consoles and the next one as well as PC. For now, players will need to find satisfaction in the ongoing adventures within GTA V and GTA Online. But if it's any consolation, the message from Rockstar seems clear: they're clearly aware fans are watching and waiting.
