This is the fifth time this year that GTA San Andreas on iOS has been updated.

It's been a relatively quiet past few weeks for Grand Theft Auto fans, and nobody expected that the latest update in the franchise's sphere of influence would come in the form of a new patch for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on the iOS, of all things.

Ahead of the start of the second half of the year, Rockstar Games dropped update 2.2.21 for GTA San Andreas on iOS on May 29. It's worth noting that this version isn't the same one that was released as part of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition for modern consoles that's also available on GTA+.

As per the official update page, the patch fixes several issues plaguing iOS players, including:

  • Fixed an issue that resulted in traffic appearing abruptly instead of fading in
  • FIxed an issue that resulted in traffic flying away at high speeds when going down ramps
  • Fixed an issue that resulted in frame-rate limiter causing a lower than target FPS

Earlier this year, Rockstar acquired Video Games Deluxe and renamed the Sydney-based studio to Rockstar Australia. Since then, we've been seeing an uptick in updates released for classic GTA titles on multiple platforms, including Grand Theft Auto 3 and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

With an entire studio now dedicated to fixing the various ports and re-relesases of classic GTA games, perhaps Rockstar Games themselves can also focus on giving fans what they want: a remaster of Grand Theft Auto 4.

A return trip to Liberty City has been rumored for years now, and the release of Red Dead Redemption on PC, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch suggests that Rockstar is no longer above re-releasing older titles following the disastrous launch of the remastered GTA trilogy.

Most recently, it was said that Rockstar is finally considering re-introducing Niko Bellic to modern fans. Whether or not this will be announced later this year remains unclear, but it will definitely be something worth keeping a close eye on.

In other GTA news, GTA 3 is returning to PlayStation Plus later this month. The GTA remastered trilogy and Grand Theft Auto V are also available for a lower price as part of the 2025 Days of Play festivities.
