Walter Houser, father of Rockstar co-founders Dan and Sam Houser and a contributor to GTA IV's soundtrack, has died, as quietly confirmed in a touching tribute by his son.
Jazz musician and English lawyer Walter Houser, father to Rockstar Games' co-founders Dan Houser and Sam Houser, has passed away. Dan confirmed this unfortunate news in his book, A Better Paradise: Volume One (An Aftermath).
Dan didn't go into much detail surrounding the death of his late father. In his latest work, Dan revealed that his father had died while he was writing the book, saying "To my father, who died while I was finished this book, and to my mother, who together taught me to love books."
Walter Houser doesn't have to many video game credits to his name. However, he did make two contributions to Grand Theft Auto IV. First, he played the role of a busker in the game, who are instrument-playing NPCs that appear throughout Liberty City, particularly in parks, subway stations, and waterfronts. Second, he lent his musical talents to one of the game's three DLCs, The Ballad of Gay Tony, playing the saxophone on Integrity 2.0.
As the father of Dan and Sam Houser, Walter Houser is the patriarch of one of gaming's most powerful creative families. His sons are two of the most affluent video game developers in the United Kingdom, thanks to their work on Grand Theft Auto. Dan Houser has since left Rockstar to pursue his own interests, most recently saying "the world's had enough of my perspective" when asked about his involvement in Grand Theft Auto 6. Sam Houser remains with Rockstar to this day.
Walter Houser is survived by his two sons, Dan Houser and Sam Houser, and his wife, English actress Geraldine Moffat.
