GTA 6 Release Date, Platforms, and What Is Locked In

That's it. That's the answer. That's when the next Grand Theft Auto will come out on current-gen platforms barring an unlikely delay.

There is no launch version for the previous console generation. If you own a PlayStation 4 or an Xbox One, you will need newer hardware to play this game.

As for playing the next GTA on the PC, Rockstar Games has yet to confirm it. Historically the studio has brought its games to PC after a console-first period, so it's coming. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has also talked about it before. For now though, anyone quoting you a specific PC release date is speculating or guess.

The official GTA 6 release date has changed three times, including an specified date as revealed by Zelnick. However, there's no reason to believe it will change one more time. The current release date is embedded in Take-Two's financial guidance for the 2027 fiscal year, reaffirmed in fillings and on the record. The company has told its shareholders and financial regulators to expect a specific, enormous amount of revenue in a fiscal year that ends on March 31, 2027, and the only product capable of producing that figure is GTA 6.

Is a GTA 6 delay still possible? Yes, but for that to happen, Take-Two and Rockstar will have to open themselves up to financial and legal consequences beyond just disappointing fans.

A note on the GTA 6 physical release. The boxed version is a download code in a case rather than a disc, so buying physically does not get you a playable disc even though retailers will eventually run out of copies to sell. It gets you a code you redeem. Plan accordingly if you were counting on installing from a disc.

On editions and pricing, the Standard edition is $79.99 and the Ultimate edition is $99.99, with the Ultimate version including extra in-game content and it's still digital only. Prices vary by region, and in some countries the game costs meaningfully less than the US figure once converted. It will also cost more starting in August in certain territories.

Now the part that people search for constantly and that we cannot yet answer: the unlock time. Rockstar has not announced what time GTA 6 goes live on November 19. Based on how previous Rockstar releases have worked, a midnight local unlock is most likely. There is also no announced date for any online or multiplayer component. Grand Theft Auto Online arrived roughly two weeks after Grand Theft Auto V launched in 2013, so expect a similar gap, but Rockstar has not confirmed a structure, a date, or a price for it.

For now, the official GTA 6 release date is the most solid it has ever been, and it is not a guarantee. If it changes, Rockstar and Take-Two will announce it directly, and we will update this page accordingly. Until then, GTA 6 is coming out on the PS5, PS5 Pro, and Xbox Series S/X, on November 19.
