GTA 6 Release Date and Delay History

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.¹ Our GTA 6 countdown tracks the remaining time, but the date is the only launch timing Rockstar has confirmed so far.

Rockstar announced the current date on November 6, 2025, moving the game from its previous May 26, 2026 target to November 19, 2026.¹ The current date is official, but it should still be described as scheduled rather than guaranteed: Rockstar can change a release plan again if development requires it.

The launch trailer released on October 15, 2026 reconfirmed November 19, 2026 in its closing release card.⁸

The public timeline contains two delays, not three. The first trailer announced a broad 2025 window.² Rockstar then set May 26, 2026 as the first specific date before moving it to the current November date.³

In Bloomberg's October 2026 account, Rockstar's leaders described the delays as the result of many interdependent systems taking longer than expected, rather than one dramatic technical failure. NPC-content projections exposed a production-capacity shortfall, prompting an expansion of the Los Angeles team, while design decisions continued to change late in development.⁷

Head of publishing Jennifer Kolbe recalled discussing both delays with Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. She said he was surprised by the second request but supported the additional time after hearing the reasons. Her account explains the decisions behind the existing dates; it does not announce another delay.⁷

GTA VI's announced platforms are PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.⁴ The PS5 version includes PS5 Pro enhancements; you do not need a separate Pro edition.⁶

GTA 6 pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026. Digital preloading is scheduled to begin at local midnight on November 12. Physical boxes are also expected from November 12, but they contain a download code rather than a disc.⁴ For more on what that means for buyers, see the physical edition explainer.

Rockstar has not announced one worldwide time when GTA 6 will unlock on November 19. PlayStation Store listings now show regional PS5 unlock times; our regional unlock table converts those listings to local times. They do not establish the Xbox Series X|S unlock schedule. The confirmed local-midnight timing for the November 12 preload is separate from launch timing.
