Rockstar Games' apology tour continues. This time, it's taking a detour towards its "other" best-selling franchise with Red Dead Redemption coming to Netflix, iOS, and Android in early December, with ports on the Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5 also launching around the same time.

The news initially broke when insider Wario64 discovered listings for the game on iOS and Android app stores labeled "Red Dead Redemption NETFLIX." Shortly after, the ESRB website ratings appeared, showing the game rated for current-generation consoles. Screenshots and official-looking information began circulating before Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive had made formal announcements, suggesting someone jumped the gun on publishing materials ahead of schedule.

According to the official announcement, Netflix subscribers will be able to download and play the 2010 title, along with its zombie-horror companion expansion Undead Nightmare, starting December 4 as part of their existing subscription at no additional cost. Likewise, GTA+ subscribers will have access to the current-gen console versions.

The mobile versions will be compatible with both iOS and Android devices, featuring mobile-friendly touch control options designed specifically for phones and tablets. Screenshots from the Android version show that Rockstar has adapted the interface for touchscreen play, relocating the minimap from its traditional bottom-left position to the top-right corner to accommodate on-screen controls that previously occupied that space.

For console players, current-generation versions will arrive slightly earlier on December 2 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S.

These updated editions promise significant technical improvements, including smooth 60 frames per second gameplay, enhanced image quality, HDR support, and resolutions reaching up to 4K. The Nintendo Switch 2 version will take full advantage of that console's new hardware with support for DLSS, HDR, mouse controls, and the same fluid 60fps gameplay at high resolution.

Perhaps most appealing for existing players, Rockstar is offering free digital upgrades for those who already own the game on PlayStation 4, original Nintendo Switch, or the digital backward-compatible Xbox One version. Players who own the PS4 version can utilize their previous save data to pick up where they left off, and Switch 2 players can continue their adventures using save data from the original Switch.
