It's crazy how Rockstar Games can release so many trailers for GTA 5 but only one for GTA 6.
It is time for a bold new paradigm shift in media marketing - trolling is the name of the game. You know how we know that Rockstar Games is well aware of everyone waiting for a new Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer? Because the studio just went ahead and dropped a new trailer for Grand Theft Auto V. No, we're not kidding, and yes, this is for GTA V, not for a new update to Grand Theft Auto Online.
Nearly 13 years since the first GTA 5 trailer was released, Rockstar is trolling fans with a 45-second trailer for Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced, the free upgrade to GTA V on PC that was released back in March. For all the talk about shorter marketing cycles, it seems that the second best selling game of all time is getting the longest marketing cycle there is.
We know for sure that this is Rockstar's idea of a joke, and we have to hand it to them. There have been rumors that the second trailer for GTA 6 will drop sometime this April. April Fool's has passed and we got nothing. As if wanting to tell Grand Theft Auto fans not to get their hopes high for the rest of the month, Rockstar goes ahead and does this.
To be fair, the new GTA 5 trailer did drop alongside the official release of the game on the Xbox and PC Game Pass, but does that really warrant a new trailer release? Give or take, Rockstar has released a dozen or so official trailers for GTA 5. The last few was for Grand Theft Auto V Expanded and Enhanced, which came out on March 15, 2022 for the Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5.
When it was first confirmed and eventually released, GTA V Enhanced didn't get a new trailer, so make of that what you will. The good news is that we won't have to wait for the first GTA 6 trailer to turn two to play GTA 6, let alone get a second trailer. Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick confirmed that marketing for GTA 6 will start around the time that Mafia: The Old Country and Borderlands 4 are released in August and September, respectively.
