It's official: the next major Grand Theft Auto Online DLC is The Cayo Perico Heist, taking the action to an all-new island that marks the very first map expansion the game has received ever since it was launched back in 2013. Rockstar Games announced the DLC with a trailer following a brief tease.
As usual, Rockstar hasn't spilled all of the beans just yet, but there are several details mentioned in the announcement. First up, the release date: The Cayo Perico Heist will launch on the 15th of December, capping off the year with a truly bombastic finale. GTA Online usually ends the year with a bang, but dropping the biggest DLC to date is taking things a step futher.
Second, we have a slightly disappointing assumption based on Rockstar's announcement post — it seems like the island Cayo Perico isn't freely explorable (actually, it is), but is only accessed during the heist missions themselves. This is less of a map expansion and more of a fancy new heist taking place in a new location, but we take what we can get.
The heist itself will feature some brand new design elements, and Rockstar calls it the biggest and most ambitious heist to date. There is one truly game-changing feature included — solo mode. That's right, you can play through the entire Cayo Perico Heist totally alone. No need to rely on random players if your crew isn't online!
