Grand Theft Auto V is running on the iPhone again, this time through a new tool called Vapor. Its developer posted screenshots of the game running on iOS 27 this week, showing the PC version of GTA V on an Apple device rather than a cloud stream.
Vapor is a project built by a self-taught iOS developer that aims to run PC and Mac games natively on Apple silicon, using translation and JIT support to get demanding titles working on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. It was announced around September 12 and the GTA V screenshots appeared about five days later, after a community poll picked the game as the one people most wanted to see.
This is a different approach from the earlier XeniOS experiments that got GTA V onto iPhones in March. XeniOS ran the Xbox 360 version through an emulator and managed only rough, low-frame-rate results on high-end phones. Vapor's version is based on Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced, which, if it holds up, could run loads better than previous attempts. The developer also shared the screenshots, promising gameplay footage soon.
Two ways GTA V has reached the iPhone
— | Vapor (new) | XeniOS (earlier) |
|---|---|---|
The version | The PC and Mac version of GTA V | The Xbox 360 version |
The method | Runs PC games directly on Apple silicon | Emulates an Xbox 360 |
The status | Screenshots on iOS 27, gameplay promised | Ran at low frame rates earlier in 2026 |
The two unofficial routes GTA V has taken onto the iPhone this year.
It is very early, though. So far there are only screenshots, no gameplay footage or performance numbers, with Vapor itself days old and not widely available. Full playability, stability, controls, battery drain and heat are all huge unknowns and like every effort of this kind, it is unofficial, needs sideloading and requires your own copy of the game.
Still, the pace at which these projects are coming out says something. Apple's chips have gotten strong enough that running a full PC game on a phone is no longer a fantasy, with tools like Vapor moving fast. Meanwhile, fans keep on getting GTA V to run on hardware Rockstar Games never targeted, from Switch handhelds to PS5 emulators, all while Grand Theft Auto VI is still months out.
