Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look premieres on Netflix on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 3 p.m. ET, which is 12 p.m. PT. The extended Grand Theft Auto 6 footage stays a Netflix exclusive for six hours, then goes free on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and the official GTA 6 site at 9 p.m on the same day with content creators also only allowed to upload their takes by then.

After a week of stolen footage flooding timelines and inspiring mods, this is the first look Rockstar actually meant for everyone to see. Based on what Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick said, this appetizer will be worth the wait.

First things first, Rockstar has never done anything like this before. In fact, no one has. Netflix even called the partnership first-of-its-kind. However, we don't know exactly what the word "extended look" means. Zelnick says that it's more of a show, so actual gameplay may be out of the question. The runtime is also up in the air. There's an old 20-minute figure floating around and the newer since-debunked claim says it's part of a three-part mini-series.

Times are for the Netflix premiere and the free release on YouTube and the GTA 6 site.

For the first six hours, Netflix is the only official doorway to the latest and perhaps most extensive Grand Theft Auto footage we've gotten or maybe ever will have and you need an active subscription to watch it. The preview has its own Netflix listing and it's best to set a reminder now so you don't have to figure out when it's coming out until it's too late. Also, you don't have to keep the subscription. You can cancel immediately after. But of course, feel free to wait for the footage to show up elsewhere.

Unfortunately, waiting is just about the only option for people in a handful of regions, China, North Korea, Russia, Syria, and Crimea.

As for the reveal itself, it's coming out in a strange time. Since August 18, a leaker known as CyberLeek has made it his life's mission to dump GTA 6 clips online. CyberLeek has tied the whole campaign to the game's digital-only setup, leaning hard on the entire no physical disc controversy as cover. In the meanwhile, Take-Two is chasing the material down link by link, using the full extent of the law to find out the identify of the leaker. So the Extended Look is no longer breaking a drought. It is competing with theft.

Rockstar knows just how big of a deal that is, which is why it issued an apology, all the while thanking GTA fans for their patience.

Of course, while the leaks took some of the surprise, almost none of it is of value, or in the words of former Rockstar North lead developer Obbe Vermeij, a "nothing burger." The leaks pale in comparison with the official version and it's free, if you can wait, and it won't put you, your wallet, or your data at risk at all.

We will cover GTA 6: An Extended Look live the moment it ends. Our recap goes up as soon as the stream wraps, with reaction, breakdown, and every confirmed detail pulled into one place.

For now, you can check out this Dazed interview with Rockstar, complete with new official screenshots, and these reveals from content creators who Rockstar flew over for a hands-off, in-person preview.
