The car

The Vapid Chino is a two-seat GTA Online muscle coupe sold for GTA$225,000 and convertible into the Chino Custom at Benny's. A matching car appears in GTA VI Trailer 1.

In this section

The Vapid Chino is a two-door muscle car manufactured by Vapid. Rockstar introduced it to Grand Theft Auto V and Grand Theft Auto Online with the Ill-Gotten Gains Part 2 update on July 8, 2015.1 A car matching the Chino also appears in Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 1.4

Overview

The Chino is a large, two-seat cruiser with a long hood, broad chrome grille and low 1960s-inspired profile. In GTA Online, Legendary Motorsport sells the base car for GTA$225,000. It can be upgraded into the Chino Custom at Benny's Original Motor Works, adding hydraulics and a much wider range of lowrider customization.

Rockstar added the Chino alongside four other Legendary Motorsport vehicles in Title Update 1.28.2 The Chino arrived as part of the wider Ill-Gotten Gains Part 2 update.

Design and appearance

The Chino uses the proportions and brightwork of a 1960s American luxury coupe: a long, nearly horizontal body, paired circular headlights, a wide grille, heavy chrome bumpers and pronounced rear fins.

The Chino's closest overall visual match is the 1961-1966 Lincoln Continental, especially the squared body, flat hood and formal side profile shown in Lincoln's official heritage material.5 The front and rear details can also be compared with the 1964 Chevrolet Impala shown in General Motors' historical gallery.6 Rockstar has not identified either car as an official design source for the Chino.

The version visible in GTA VI Trailer 1 keeps the established silhouette while showing a cleaner grille, a small opening in the front bumper and a more detailed cabin.

Performance and driving

In GTA V and GTA Online, the Chino is better suited to cruising than competitive racing. Its heavy body gives it stable, predictable handling, but acceleration and cornering are modest beside faster Muscle-class cars. The vehicle database above provides the maintained tested-performance and technical figures without duplicating them in this overview.

The Chino's GTA VI performance is unknown. Its appearance in a trailer does not establish its speed, durability, customization options or handling in the finished game.

Customization

The base Chino accepts conventional performance and cosmetic work at Los Santos Customs. Its defining upgrade is the Chino Custom conversion at Benny's Original Motor Works, which unlocks hydraulics, extensive interior work, paint and trim combinations, wheels, audio equipment and other lowrider-focused modifications. Rockstar has repeatedly listed the Vapid Chino and its Custom upgrade among Benny's supported vehicles.3

The Chino Custom is a separate upgraded form of the base car rather than a different vehicle found naturally in traffic. The Lowriders: Custom Classics update expanded Benny's role and the wider lowrider system.

Where to find the Chino

In GTA Online, the base Chino is sold by Legendary Motorsport for GTA$225,000. Title Update 1.28 also made it immediately available in Story Mode on the supported platforms described in Rockstar's patch notes.2

In GTA VI Trailer 1, matching cars appear in traffic and at street scenes around Vice City.4 The GTA VI Trailer 1 breakdown shows where the car appears. These appearances do not yet confirm how the Chino will be acquired or whether its GTA Online price and customization will carry over.

Notable variant

The Chino Custom is the base Chino's Benny's conversion. It keeps the original low-slung body but adds the hydraulic and visual options associated with GTA Online's Lowriders system. Rockstar's own promotions treat the base vehicle and Custom upgrade as connected purchases.3

Trivia

  • Rockstar described the Chino at launch as bringing "old school sedan brawn" to the Ill-Gotten Gains Part 2 vehicle lineup.1
  • The Chino debuted in Title Update 1.28 as one of five vehicles added to Legendary Motorsport for Story Mode and GTA Online.2
