The Albany Buccaneer Custom is a two-door Albany muscle car and lowrider. It was introduced in Grand Theft Auto Online with the Lowriders update, and it has since appeared in Grand Theft Auto VI promotional footage.
Design
Within the HD Universe, the Buccaneer Custom is a roof-optional lowrider conversion of the standard Albany Buccaneer, a model with a longer history across the Grand Theft Auto series. Its closest real-world visual comparison is the first-generation Buick Riviera. General Motors records that the Riviera became a standalone model in 1963, while the in-game car combines that broad profile with extensive lowrider modifications.1 Rockstar has not identified an official real-world design source.
GTA Online conversion and customization
Players must obtain a standard Buccaneer and convert it at Benny's Original Motor Works for GTA$390,000. Rockstar's Lowriders update added the Buccaneer to Benny's supported vehicles and introduced hydraulics, liveries, interior trim, dials, seats, steering wheels, engine-bay parts, trunk installations and lowrider wheels.2
The conversion replaces or recolors much of the standard chrome trim and adds a customizable frame, exposed drivetrain details, hydraulic components and a wide range of cabin finishes. Its value is primarily in customization and car-meet use rather than outright speed.
GTA Online uses
The Buccaneer Custom can appear in several missions and activities:
- As a target during a Vehicle Cargo steal mission.
- In the Grove Street and Scrapyard Survivals.
- In Gerald's Last Play mission End Product.
- As the Vagos lowrider in The Popstar Payphone Hit.
- In Security Contracts and Short Trip missions.
Some mission-only examples use combinations of paint, modifications and liveries that players cannot recreate exactly.
GTA VI appearance
The Buccaneer Custom appears in GTA VI Trailer 1, parked in Vice Beach behind a Schyster PMP 700.3 The footage shows larger tires and a pinstripe-style livery.
Trivia
- The standard Albany Buccaneer, which the Custom is based on, has appeared in several previous titles, including Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Grand Theft Auto IV, and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars.
- In Grand Theft Auto Online, if the player equips the single or triple Intake Bug Catcher hood modification, the air filter can still be purchased but will not be visually present on the engine.
- When upgraded with hydraulics, the Buccaneer Custom can drag its rear bumper along the ground, similar to the Tornado in the 3D Universe titles.
