All GTA, all day, since 2012

GTA Online player becomes a billionaire from AFK farming

Imagine making a billion in GTA Online even when you're asleep.

There are plenty of ways to make money in Grand Theft Auto Online, much like in real life. If you're the blue-collar kind of guy, you can take on regular jobs and sell cars, race others, and more. But, if you want the full GTA Online experience, the best way to make money is to bet at the casino and perform Heists. However, GTA Online also has just as many ways to get you to spend your hard-earned cash as it does ways for you to earn them. This makes it terribly difficult to save money in GTA Online.

Of course, difficult doesn't mean impossible, as this one particular player will tell you.

According to Reddit user u/jamcar70, it's possible to save a billion of in-game cash in GTA Online by literally doing nothing.

Finally! $1 Billion from gtaonline

Now, before you call us out on technicalities, u/jamcar70 did do something. Apparently, u/jamcar70 has spent the past two years or so making money by doing the security cam glitch to max out his nightclub earnings. This just goes to show that AFK Farming works in GTA Online. But, fair warning - there's a small caveat.

As u/jamcar70 reveals, they spent 18,000 hours playing GTA Online over the past two years or so to become a billion in-game.

To put that into context, it's believed that you'd need to spend 10,000 hours on a particular craft to master it, which takes well over a year even if you spend 24 hours a day honing it. So, even if u/jamcar70 did "nothing", they still spent over two years doing it.

More than 18,000 hours will have passed from when you read this article until GTA 6 comes out.

If you have that much time to spare playing GTA Online, then be our guest. After all, GTA 6 isn't set to come out in well over two years from now, so the user might be onto something here.

In the meantime, GTA Online players can keep themselves busy with the latest update. We heard that it's cheaper to become a car shop owner this week. If nothing else, this would be a lucrative business venture for those who want to be a billionaire in GTA Online.
