Criminal Profiles track how you behave during crimes in Grand Theft Auto VI. Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos each have their own profile, so one can operate as a restrained professional while the other takes a more violent approach. 1
The system uses named states rather than a numerical morality bar. The details below come from TGG's Rockstar North preview; our car theft, wanted and Criminal Profile explainer covers the wider crime systems.
Professional, Psycho and separate character profiles
Professional and Psycho are two of the Criminal Profile states. The profile appears during play and in a character menu alongside relationship information. 1
Rockstar's Rob Nelson described restraint as controlling a robbery without unnecessary injuries or killings. Excessive killing, killing animals and rampages move the profile towards the more violent states. The useful distinction is between doing what a job requires and causing additional harm. 1
A further state below Psycho has an icon that cracks and shatters; reaching it is irreversible for the playthrough. The remaining state names and the thresholds between states have not been detailed. 1
Does it affect the story?
Your actions may affect parts of the story, depending on how you play. Specific story consequences for each state have not been detailed. 1
The profile is separate from immediate police pursuit and from Jason and Lucia's relationship. Losing the police is not the same as changing a character's Criminal Profile. For the other systems, see the wanted-system explainer and relationship breakdown.
What counts as unnecessary violence?
The profile responds to a pattern of behaviour, not simply whether you committed a crime. Repeated violence beyond what a situation calls for can influence how people react to you and how the story develops. Aggression required during a mission or robbery does not necessarily change the profile in the same way. 2
That distinction matters during a hold-up. Controlling the situation and taking what you need is different from continuing to hurt people after they have stopped resisting. It does not mean every mission makes violence consequence-free, or that every restrained action produces a visible increase. The exact thresholds remain undisclosed. 2
Smaller actions can also contribute: disposing of your own rubbish was among the examples described in the preview. The system therefore extends beyond shootouts, but there is no published points chart for restoring a particular state. 2
Police Heat and your relationship are separate
Changing outfits can address identifying clues in the Heat and wanted system, but is not an established way to reset a Criminal Profile. Jason and Lucia's relationship can develop while they retain different individual profiles.
You can also switch off Criminal Profile notifications. That changes what is shown to you; the preview does not establish that the toggle disables the underlying profile. 1
