Weather in Grand Theft Auto VI varies across Leonida. You can stand in sunshine and see a storm elsewhere, then drive towards it as the roads become wet. Wind changes the water beneath a boat and can buffet an aircraft. 1

The day-night cycle is also substantially longer than in GTA V. Edge’s October 29 Rockstar North feature describes both the changing weather and that slower cycle. 1

Moving storms and gradual changes

GTA V generally switches between preset weather conditions such as sun, rain and overcast skies. GTA VI is more granular: cloud systems move independently, with wind, humidity, fog, time of day and season feeding into the weather. 1 The feature names season as an influence without describing how seasons change during play.

A distant storm can be visible before you reach it. Dark clouds, lightning and the haze of falling rain can all be visible from a sunny location. Driving towards that weather produces a gradual transition, rather than the whole view changing at once. 1

Rain also leaves traces after a storm passes. Roads become wet, buildings continue to drip, and surfaces dry at different rates. A break in the rain therefore does not make every surface immediately look dry. 1

Wind, waves and boat handling

Wind affects trees, clouds and waves. For a boat, the surrounding geography matters as well: islands and buildings can shelter stretches of water, changing how the craft moves through bays and along the shore. A boat can skip over sheltered water or be rocked around in more exposed stretches. 1

This makes the conditions along a journey part of the boating experience, rather than a single weather effect applied equally everywhere. The activities reference covers airboats, personal watercraft and other ways to explore Leonida.

Flying through severe weather

Storms can buffet planes and helicopters. Staying inside severe weather can also cause minor damage to the aircraft. The feature does not give a damage rate or a safe time limit, so this is not a countdown you can plan around precisely. 1

Weather affects people on the ground too. Pedestrians seek shelter as conditions deteriorate; their response is part of the same changing environment, alongside the moving vegetation and rougher water. 1

Longer sunsets and nights

Rockstar substantially extended the day-night cycle from GTA V’s timings. Those earlier timings felt too fast when tested in GTA VI’s more detailed world. Sunsets linger and nights last longer, giving activities after dark more room within the cycle. 1

Edge does not state the full cycle’s duration in real-world minutes. 1

Weather alongside the rest of Leonida

The weather and longer days sit alongside working buses and trains, shared outings and criminal jobs that can be interrupted by encounters on the street. For those wider systems, see the Edge preview breakdown. You can also browse the 15 screenshots accompanying the feature.
