Grand Theft Auto VI won Most Anticipated Game at The Game Awards 2024, beating Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Ghost of Yōtei, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Monster Hunter Wilds. Astro Bot won Game of the Year at the same ceremony.1
The award followed GTA VI's Most Wanted Game win at the 2024 Golden Joystick Awards. Both awards were announced before the game was released.
Why the Award Mattered
GTA VI had not been released when it won, so the result reflected anticipation rather than reception to the finished game. At the time, Rockstar Games had released only Trailer 1, which debuted on December 4, 2023 and introduced Lucia and Jason in Vice City and the wider state of Leonida.
