Grand Theft Auto VI's official store listings now carry adult age ratings, with "Sex Scenes" listed in Australia and New Zealand and "Strong Sexual Content" among the US warnings. The listings are attracting attention on X today, alongside another label players have spotted: "In-Game Purchases."
In the US, both the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store display Mature 17+. The seven content descriptors are Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs and Alcohol. The same warnings also appear on Rockstar's GTA VI website.
That gives players a clearer picture of the game's adult content ahead of launch. The regional labels use different wording, though, and the purchases notice covers more than the microtransactions some fans have immediately assumed.

Why the sex-scenes warnings stand out
Australia and New Zealand explicitly name "Sex Scenes," giving that part of the game more prominence than the broader US phrase "Strong Sexual Content." It is an eye-catching detail in a set of warnings otherwise familiar to anyone who has played the series.
Some have contrasted those warnings with Grand Theft Auto V as though sexual content were new to the franchise. It is not. The ESRB's GTA V record for PS4 and Xbox One lists exactly the same seven content descriptors as the current US GTA VI listings, and its summary describes sexual activity as well as nudity. The new regional labels identify content to expect; they do not provide enough detail to compare individual scenes between the games.
The ESRB definition of Strong Sexual Content covers explicit or frequent depictions of sexual behavior, potentially including nudity. In GTA V, the rating summary describes implied sex acts involving prostitutes and strip-club nudity, offering a concrete example of the material that can sit behind that label.
For GTA VI, the warning could cover intimate story scenes, sexual activity encountered during free roam, or both. With Jason and Lucia's relationship central to the story, intimate scenes between the protagonists are another plausible possibility. The rating does not identify which characters or activities prompted it.
The Australian store's R18+ badge is also different from the earlier Australian PlayStation advertisement showing X18+. That advertisement prompted its own round of ratings speculation. The current listing gives buyers an R18+ label to work from instead.
What In-Game Purchases covers
The purchases label is the other big talking point, but ESRB uses it for a wide range of paid extras. Its ratings guide includes upgrades, subscriptions, season passes and virtual currency, while its explanation of the label also covers downloadable content and expansions. It is not a synonym for Shark Cards.
There is already a relevant paid extra on the store pages: a separately sold Ultimate Edition Upgrade. Xbox lists that upgrade at US$20. Its presence does not establish that it is the only purchase the label covers, but it shows why a purchases notice does not automatically announce a new microtransaction system.
That distinction matters because Take-Two has said GTA 6 launches without an online mode or recurrent spending. A paid edition upgrade and an ongoing currency or microtransaction system are different things. The ratings label supplies no new details about an Online mode.
What this means ahead of launch
The adult ratings are a useful development for players waiting on GTA VI: the stores now identify the audience and flag the content buyers can expect. Some of the excitement on X has gone a step further, treating the ratings as evidence that development is finished. A store rating is not a gone-gold announcement, and Rockstar has not made one here.
GTA VI is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The regional listings put the game's adult content front and center as that date approaches, with sex-scenes warnings alongside the violence, drugs and language fans expect from the series.
