Grand Theft Auto VI will support PS5 Pro enhancements, making the console a potential upgrade for players preparing for launch. But buying one through Sony's Japanese store now requires more than money: applicants must have logged at least 60 hours of PS4 or PS5 playtime over the past two years to qualify for its latest sale.
That's right: buying a PS5 Pro in Japan right now takes more than money. It takes a gaming résumé.
Sony's purchase terms prohibit resale applications. The playtime requirement also puts a practical obstacle in the way of someone creating fresh accounts to buy up consoles.
Naturally, the rules are strict by design. You need a Japan-registered Sony account with online history, a linked My Sony ID and a Japanese delivery address. The 60 hours must have been logged between September 27, 2024 and September 27, 2026 at 23:59 Japan time. Each account can apply for one console.
The playtime window already closed before applications opened, so nobody can grind their way in now.

The 60-hour bar is easy for real players and hard for scalpers spinning up fresh accounts.
Applications opened on September 28 and close on October 7 at 23:59 JST. If eligible entries exceed stock, Sony will hold a lottery and begin notifying applicants around October 26. Selected buyers must pay ¥137,980 by November 2 at 11:59 JST. Shipping follows payment and preparation, and Sony warns of possible delays rather than promising delivery before the November 19 launch.
The 60-hour threshold is the interesting part. Spread across two years, it works out to well under an hour a week: easy for a regular player, but no help to a reseller starting with a fresh account. Sony used a 30-hour requirement for its 2024 anniversary PS5 Pro, counted over a much longer window beginning in 2014. This sale doubles the hours while shrinking the window to two years.
