Adin Ross and FaZe Banks are dreaming big with plans for a crypto-integrated GTA 6 RP server.
The game isn't even out yet, but grifters are already looking for an angle - Popular streamer Adin Ross and FaZe Banks have announced ambitious plans to create a Grand Theft Auto 6 role-playing (RP) server with the goal of integrating cryptocurrency elements into the virtual world of Vice City.
During a recent livestream, Ross and Banks outlined their concept for what they claim will be the "biggest and best" GTA 6 RP server. The duo emphasized that their server would be "completely crypto" and "pro-crypto," suggesting that players could potentially earn real-world value through their in-game activities.
However, the proposed crypto-integrated RP server faces several significant hurdles. Rockstar Games has historically taken a stance against incorporating cryptocurrencies into their games. In 2022, the company explicitly banned fan-made servers from using NFTs or cryptocurrencies to grant ownership of in-game items in Grand Theft Auto Online.
This precedent raises questions about the feasibility of Ross and Banks' plans within the official GTA 6 ecosystem, especially considering how aggressive Take-Two Interactive is in enforcing its rights as the game's publisher, as evidenced by what happened to Liberty City Preservation Project and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City The Next Gen Edition.
Previous attempts by major publishers to incorporate NFTs and crypto elements into their games have also often been met with resistance from players and resulted in commercial failures, partially because of the countless high profile controversies and scams buzzing around the crypto world, which consistently failed to even get close to the alleged 'vision' behind it.
Despite these challenges, the mere rumor of GTA 6 potentially supporting cryptocurrency has got many thinking. After all, it wasn't too long ago when the Solana blockchain saw a recent surge in GTA-themed meme coins. The creation of these tokens on platforms like Pump.fun highlights the ease with which anyone can launch new cryptocurrencies.
It's important to note that Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have not confirmed any official connection between GTA 6 and cryptocurrency, both positive and negative. However, history suggests that taking this concept and turning it into reality is fraught with legal, technical, and practical challenges.
For now, fans can make the best use of their creative energies coming up with theories and speculating about GTA 6 ahead of the next earnings call by Take-Two Interactive on February 6.
