Rockstar Games has added a Mission Creator to Grand Theft Auto Online, giving players the tools to build and share their own missions from scratch. This lines up with the strategy they seem to be targeting for the future of the franchise, with a focus on user generated content. The new tool is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC for Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced.

To get started, open the Pause Menu, go to Online > Rockstar Creator > Create a Mission, agree to the community guidelines, and you're in. From there, you can design missions for up to 8 players, set objectives, control how NPCs behave, and add cinematic cutscenes. The tool also unlocks access to a handful of locations that aren't normally available in free roam, such as the USS Luxington Aircraft Carrier deck, the Cluckin' Bell Factory, and several banks among them.

GTA Online players can now create full mission experiences with Mission Creator, adding custom objectives, cutscenes, and action-packed finales across Los Santos.

If you're new to it, Rockstar has created five built-in tutorial missions that walk you through the tools by letting you actually play them, and you can also open each one in the editor to see exactly how they were put together. These include:

  • Creator Content I - Secure & Deliver
  • Creator Content II - Obtain & Impair
  • Creator Content III - Stealth Extraction
  • Creator Content IV - Thick as Thieves
  • Creator Content V - Multiple Choice

To kick things off, Rockstar partnered with GTA Series Videos, a long-running community channel, to create the first entry in what they're calling the Community Mission Series. It's called Old School Hits, draws inspiration from the original GTA trilogy, and goes live on April 30. It pays out 4X GTA$ and RP for a limited window.

Rockstar is launching Old School Hits, the first Community Mission Series creation built with the new Mission Creator, inspired by the original GTA trilogy.

Once you've built something worth sharing, you can post it in Rockstar's official Discord server for feedback and tag published missions with #communityseries if you want them considered for a future Community Series feature. You can also bookmark other players' missions through the Jobs page and access them later in-game.

There's an incentive for getting featured: Rockstar is giving a one-time GTA$10,000,000 payout, a Varsity Jacket, and a Mansion Trophy to anyone whose work makes it into the Community Series. More community missions are planned for later this year, with a Community Race Series also coming next month.
