Rockstar has consistently prioritized console launches for its major titles, with PC versions typically following months or even years later. While this strategy has caused a lot of frustration for PC gamers, who often find themselves waiting extended periods to experience Rockstar's latest offerings, we've since found out that there's a perfectly good reason Rockstar and Take-Two prefer to sell their games on consoles first.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick recently addressed the topic of platform releases, albeit in a somewhat cryptic manner. When questioned about the company's launch strategies, Zelnick noted that they don't always release across all platforms simultaneously. He specifically mentioned Rockstar's history of starting with certain platforms before expanding to others, all but confirming that GTA 6 will come to PC eventually.
Of course, this isn't new information. A leak last year revealed that development on GTA 6 on PC is already underway. It's only a matter of when, and not if. As the wait for GTA 6 continues, Take-Two remain committed to the fall 2025 console release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X. Zelnick has publicly reaffirmed this timeline multiple times, much to the benefit of Take-Two and its stock price.
Before we get the PC release date of GTA 6, we'll know when it will come out on consoles first. If we go by the sales expectations of Sony for the next holiday season, and the cautious nature of Electronic Arts, something tells us that the top players in the industry are expecting the two-billion-dollar game to be out before the year ends.
For now though, Grand Theft Auto fans on PC can keep themselves busy by playing Grand Theft Auto 5, which is getting a free upgrade on March 4.
