Grand Theft Auto V Enhanced looks absolutely stunning, setting the stage for what could be the best-looking video game of the current generation, Grand Theft Auto 6. Unfortunately, one of the side-effects of upgrading Grand Theft Auto V to support modern features on PC is that most if not all the previous single-player mods no longer worked in the game—until now.
According to @videotechuk_ on X, the ScripthookV and Rampage SP menu is now updated to support the latest version of GTA V, which is good news for those who'd like to push just how much better (and how much more fun) they can have in Los Santos. GTA V is one of the most modded games on PC. So you can only imagine the disappointment in many fans after finding out that the mods they used to enjoy GTA V no longer worked. Kudos to the developers responsible for updating two of the most popular mods for GTA V to support the free upgrade.
There's still no word when the official modding tool will arrive, however. Cfx.re, which Rockstar Games bought in 2023, has confirmed that an official mod tool is currently in development to "assist the modding community in making their assets compatible with the new upgrade." It's unclear when the mod tool will arrive, but Cfx.re noted that they're nearly finished and are already "completing the final few tasks required to release the tool."
The ongoing support for GTA V Enhanced from both official and third-party sources should help improve public perception. At the moment, GTA V now has the distinction of being the worst-reviewed Rockstar title on Steam, with nearly half of its player base expressing discontent with the upgrade. Although there are several valid reasons why fans aren't too happy, including Rockstar's silence regarding Grand Theft Auto 6 and the still-ongoing migration issues, among others.
The good news is that if you insist on playing GTA V with mods that currently aren't supported, you can. Grand Theft Auto V Legacy is the original version of GTA 5 on PC. New players will get copies of both GTA V Legacy and GTA V Enhanced, so you do have a choice. This is giving infamous 'Don Mattrick's Xbox 360 recommendation' energy, but it's only temporary.
This bit of good news for the Grand Theft Auto modding community comes just as Take-Two Interactive clamped down on yet another popular mod. The ever-vigilant lawyers of Rockstar's parent company recently took down a mod that allowed players to fly through a recreation of GTA 6's Vice City and Leonida in GTA V based off information from the first trailer and leaks. Before this, popular mods that added a playable version of Liberty City, the setting of Grand Theft Auto 4, into GTA 5, and a mod that recreated Grand Theft Auto: Vice City in GTA 4, were removed from the internet following stern warnings from Take-Two and Rockstar.
While GTA V Enhanced user reviews are sitting at a "mixed" average on Steam, it has helped GTA V draw the most number of players since launching on PC, helping GTA V top sales charts across multiple gaming platforms.
