Rockstar Games officially released A Safehouse in the Hills earlier this week, an update that many believe is the final major piece of content for Grand Theft Auto Online before Grand Theft Auto 6 launches on November 19, 2026.
While players have enjoyed exploring luxury mansions and witnessing Michael De Santa finally appearing in GTA Online so far, dataminers have had their hands full digging through the update's files looking for hidden secrets. What they discovered suggests Rockstar had significantly different plans for this content before the GTA 6 delay forced last-minute changes.
Tez2, a well-known dataminer, was the first to point out something peculiar about the Career Progress Plaque awarded for completing the update's new KnoWay Out mission series. According to text strings buried in the code, this mission chain was originally called something completely different: Sahara Surveillance.
On its own, a changed mission name might not seem particularly significant, but the name has ties to GTA 6, with a company called Sahara appearing in official promotional materials, particularly in two different GTA 6 screenshots.
Based on what we've seen so far, Sahara is a parody of Amazon, serving as a massive logistics and delivery corporation operating in Vice City and the surrounding state of Leonida. In one screenshot, you can see the Sahara Arena, the home stadium for the Vice City Narcos basketball team.
Another screenshot shows a cardboard shipping box with tape bearing the Sahara name. The box appears in the bottom left corner of the image behind a lava lamp, somewhat difficult to spot but definitely present for those looking closely.
