A week after the outbreak began, players are uncovering bizarre zombie rules like music-triggered sprinting and Conquistadors immune to bullets, with double rewards ending September 10.
Last week, El Rubio's tropical paradise turned into a nightmare. Grand Theft Auto Online is now filled with zombies (again!), and nobody's quite sure if it's caused by sketchy party drugs or some ancient island curse. Either way, these undead aren't here to dance.
The new Cayo Perico Survival mode throws you into the middle of this zombie apocalypse. Your job is simple: kill everything that moves (or shambles) and make it to the helicopter landing zone alive. Players looking for a real challenge can tackle the endless wave mode instead, seeing how long they can last against increasingly difficult hordes.
However, don't expect these to be your typical brain-dead zombies. Regular undead will actually sprint faster when music is playing, so taking out the DJ first can buy you precious seconds. Splitter zombies break apart when killed, creating two enemies that your team needs to coordinate to eliminate quickly.
The Conquistadors, though, are an entirely different challenge. These armored undead can only be killed with melee weapons, but their old-fashioned muskets take forever to reload. Get in close while they're vulnerable and finish them fast.
Fair warning: If you happen to encounter the Undead Panther Trainer, kill them immediately when you see their red trail, or you'll spend the rest of the wave fighting off deadly big cats.
This mode pays double cash and RP through September 10, with GTA+ members getting four times the usual rewards. Even better, everyone who plays gets a free "I Survived Cayo Perico" t-shirt delivered within three days - even if they, you know, didn't.
Assault on Cayo Perico is also paying double through September 10 - so whether you're raiding El Rubio's compound or defending it from attackers, the increased payouts make it worth revisiting this heist location in a new format.
The Community Race Series features a new Open Wheel track called Lakeside View, complete with elaborate decorations and a finish line over the Land Act Reservoir. Like other featured modes this week, it's paying double rewards. Payphone Hits are getting the double treatment too. These assassination missions from The Agency pay extra for completing bonus objectives, making them more profitable than ever. Hotring Races are also included in this week's bonus rotation.

Meanwhile, Rockstar Games' summer giveaway continues through September 17. Anyone who hasn't claimed their free million dollars just needs to log in and play. Signing up for GTA+ membership before the deadline nets another million dollars plus ongoing benefits. Players can also grab a free Panther Tour Jacket just for playing GTA Online this week, apparently to commemorate all those undead big cats roaming Cayo Perico.
Eight vehicles are getting 30% discounts this week, ranging from the Karin Sultan Classic to the bizarre RUNE Zhaba amphibious vehicle. Take a look at the whole catalog of vehicles on offer this week:
