An anonymous poster, apparently verified by GTA Forums moderators as a current Rockstar Games employee, has publicly shared a detailed account of what they say happened when over thirty colleagues lost their jobs last week.
The alleged employee felt compelled to speak out after witnessing what they describe as widespread disinformation about the terminations. According to this insider account, Rockstar Games' firings were sudden. Employees who were physically in the studio that day received individual messages requesting a short, friendly meeting that gave no hint that something serious was about to happen.
However, upon arrival, employees received envelopes containing letters stating that they had been immediately fired for gross misconduct related to posts made on Discord. The posters says the entire encounter lasted less than five minutes, and Rockstar gave no other reason.
The insider also claims that Rockstar denied terminated employees their right to union representation during these veiled meetings. Rockstar reportedly drove the terminated employees out of the studio, giving them no opportunity to gather their personal belongings or say goodbye to colleagues they’d worked with for years.
For employees who weren't physically present in the studio that day, the experience was said to be even more impersonal. They reportedly received phone calls from HR lasting less than two minutes informing them of their termination.
The insider claims the fired employees had spent years at Rockstar in critical roles, with some having stayed with the company for over 18 years without receiving a single disciplinary action. The fired individuals ranged from senior artists to animators, designers, programmers, and producers, with some holding leadership positions.
It's also claimed that some of those terminated were off sick, recovering from surgery, or on paternity leave when they received the news.
The anonymous employee also addressed the core accusation that prompted these firings: alleged leaking of confidential information in Discord. They argue against the official statement released by Take-Two Interactive, saying that the Discord was private and contained only employees and authorized union representatives.
The insider insists that this was union-busting and nothing else, saying everyone fired was a union member, and were predominantly serving on the union organizing committees of each UK studio.
As a result, they say that remaining Rockstar employees now fear for their jobs, are afraid to speak up and even sympathize with those who have been terminated.
Interestingly, this entire situation is unfolding just as Rockstar confirmed the delay of Grand Theft Auto 6 to November 2026, with protests erupting outside Rockstar North in Edinburgh and Take-Two’s London offices.
