The Annis Hellion is an off-road truck manufactured by Annis that appears in Grand Theft Auto Online and is confirmed to appear in Grand Theft Auto VI. As a rugged 4x4, the Hellion is characterized by its boxy, retro design and its exceptional capability on difficult terrain, making it a popular choice for off-road exploration.

    Overview

The Annis Hellion is a utility truck designed with function over form, featuring a rugged and angular design with retro sensibilities. While not built for racing, it serves as an excellent vehicle for free-roam cruising, particularly when venturing off the beaten path. Its reputation is built on its ability to handle a wide variety of terrains, with a notable proficiency for climbing steep sand dunes and other inclines with ease.

    Design and Appearance

Based on its appearance in Grand Theft Auto Online, the Hellion has a very linear, boxy design. The front end is rectangular, with headlights set into concave portions and turning signals on the outer edges, protected by a bulky bumper. The sides feature small fender flares, stepsides, and a distinctive ridged detail along the middle that bears a secondary color stripe.

The cabin has painted outer pillars and black inner pillars. The rear end includes a small compartment, a driver-side license plate holder, and rectangular tail lights surrounded by black trim. Notably, any extra lights fitted to the bullbar or roof racks are non-functional. The interior is traditional in design, utilizing the "Cavalcade" style dial set.

The Hellion's design is primarily inspired by the fourth-generation Nissan Patrol (Y60) 1. Additional influences include the Nissan D21 series for the front fascia2, the Jeep Cherokee (XJ) for the bumpers3, the second-generation Mitsubishi Pajero for the tail lights4, and the first-generation Isuzu Trooper for the side window shape5.

    Performance

The Hellion's performance is average for its class, but it excels in its specific role as an off-roader. It is powered by a straight-6 engine with a sound profile shared with the Freecrawler and Nightshark. While engine modifications like a V8 or turbochargers are available, they are purely cosmetic and do not affect performance.

The vehicle possesses good handling on both tarmac and rough terrain, and it can tackle steep inclines without significant trouble. Its primary weakness is its large tires, which are highly vulnerable to gunfire, making bulletproof tires an essential upgrade. The vehicle's durability is considered good for a rugged off-road truck.

Assuming the Hellion is fully upgraded in GTA Online, it can reach a top speed of 167.37 km/h (104.00 mph).

    Modifications / Customization

The Hellion offers a range of modifications. A notable upgrade is the "Window Plates" option, which slightly increases traction and provides the driver with protection from gunfire as the plates are solid.
    Two prominent liveries are available:

    • Globe Ranger: Based on the Jeep Wrangler from the 1993 film Jurassic Park 6.
    • Nightmare: Appears to be based on the Grave Digger monster truck7.

    Acquisition / Locations

In Grand Theft Auto VI, the Annis Hellion has been observed in the first official trailer. It can be seen in traffic on a busy Vice City freeway and later in the parking lot outside the Port Gellhorn Pawn & Gun shop.

In Grand Theft Auto Online, it is available for purchase from Southern San Andreas Super Autos for $835,000.

    Strategy and Usage

The Hellion is best used for off-road exploration and free-roaming rather than competitive racing. Its key strength is its ability to traverse difficult landscapes, making it a reliable choice for getting around areas without roads. Players should prioritize upgrading to bulletproof tires to mitigate the vehicle's main vulnerability. For players seeking extra protection and a slight performance boost, the "Window Plates" modification is a recommended addition.

    Grand Theft Auto Online

The Hellion was introduced to Grand Theft Auto Online during the Hellion Week event on October 3, 2019. Its release coincided with promotions offering double and triple rewards on various off-road and survival activities, encouraging players to purchase and use the new vehicle. Initially priced at a relatively affordable GTA$ 835,000, it was temporarily removed from the in-game market before being made available for purchase again. In-game, its default radio is set to the "Rap" group, which includes stations like West Coast Classics and Radio Los Santos.

    Trivia

    • The name "Hellion" refers to a mischievous or devious person. This could be a playful nod to the real-world Nissan Rogue8, as "rogue" shares a similar definition.
    • The extra lamps mounted on the front bullbar and the roof racks are cosmetic only and do not function.
    • There is a minor graphical oversight where the player character's animation briefly freezes in an incorrect position on the steering wheel upon starting the engine.
