Rockstar Games is making it easier than ever for modders to bring their work to the enhanced version of Grand Theft Auto V through a new partnership with Sollumz, a popular Blender modding toolkit. The collaboration was announced yesterday by Cfx.re, the team behind FiveM that Rockstar acquired back in 2023. Sollumz is getting a major update to version 2.8.0 that will let creators convert their GTA V Legacy assets to work with the Enhanced edition of the game.

Why does this matter? When Rockstar released GTA V Enhanced for PC earlier this year as a free upgrade, it brought modern graphics improvements but broke compatibility with existing FiveM assets. That meant the massive roleplay community the game accumulated had to stick with the older version of the game to keep their servers and custom content running.

Thankfully, that's changing now. Sollumz already helped modders import, export, and create GTA V assets within Blender, but the new update adds direct support for converting content between the Legacy and Enhanced versions. It's the first community tool to tap into Materia, the conversion library that powers Alchemist, Cfx.re's own asset conversion application released just last week. All of those words make sense if you are into GTA modding, promise!

Alex Guirere stated in the Sollumz Discord that the release is major progress for the tool, saying, "Thanks to our collaboration with Rockstar Games and Cfx.re on their new Materia library, Sollumz now supports native binary formats import and export. This means you can now work with Legacy (Gen8) and Enhanced (Gen9) binary assets directly." The updated Sollumz also brings full support for Blender 5.0, automatic vehicle window shattermap generation, and various vertex paint tools alongside bug fixes. Modders can grab the new version on GitHub right now.

GTA fans will be pleased that Rockstar is now actively collaborating with third-party developers on modding tools for GTA V. The company's acquisition of Cfx.re two years ago signaled a change in attitude toward the modding scene, especially around roleplay servers, and the developer seems committed to supporting the community that's kept GTA V thriving for over a decade.
