A mod team is recreating the 3D Universe classic with GTA 4's physics, featuring enhanced gameplay and graphics.
Grand Theft Auto fans, get ready to revisit the neon-soaked streets of Vice City like never before - Revolution Team is set to release their fan-made "GTA Vice City: Next-Gen Edition" on January 25, an ambitious reimagining of the beloved 2002 classic in the version of the RAGE Engine used in Grand Theft Auto 4 .
The fan project isn't a mere graphics update. The Next-Gen Edition is a complete overhaul that promises to deliver the quintessential Vice City experience with modern gameplay mechanics, making it more of a 'remake' than a 'remaster'. The Revolution Team has painstakingly recreated Vice City's missions, collectibles, and even the original cheat codes. Fans can expect to see familiar faces, drive classic vehicles, and tune into their favorite radio stations as they cruise through the reimagined cityscape.
By leveraging the power of GTA 4's engine, the mod introduces enhanced physics, improved lighting, and the iconic Euphoria animation system that continues to make GTA 4 feel so dynamic and responsive even when compared to its successor, Grand Theft Auto 5 .
The mod doesn't stop at mere recreation, though - it incorporates elements from various versions of Vice City to create the ultimate package. The city itself is based on the enhanced version from the Definitive Edition. At the same time, character models and vehicles are pulled from the Xbox release, giving birth to a whole new gameplay experience. Can you imagine weaving through Vice City with more responsive controls, or engaging in shootouts with more intelligent, unpredictable enemies?
This is as close as we can get to a potential preview of Grand Theft Auto 6, which will also be set in the Miami-inspired city.
While most are understandably excited, Take-Two Interactive's stance against mods looms over the release. Rockstar Games' parent company has a history of shutting down fan projects that use its intellectual property. However, Revolution Team seems undeterred, pushing forward with their planned release. They even dropped a launch trailer ahead of the mod's debut.
We'll know more for sure on January 25 if Revolution Team and GTA Vice City: Next-Gen Edition will suffer a fate similar to the Liberty City Preservation Project. In the meantime, GTA fans may want to keep a close eye on any news from Rockstar and Take-Two later this month or early in February as Take-Two prepares to host its next earnings call, which may or may not confirm the actual release price of GTA 6 .
