This would explain why Rockstar is rumored to be exploring user-generated content possibilities for GTA 6.

What do Grand Theft Auto Online and Roblox have in common? Well, as it turns out, a lot.

According to recent statistics shared by Christopher Dring from Ampere Analysis, GTA Online and Roblox share a significant 22% player crossover. This means that more than one in five GTA Online players also regularly engage with Roblox, a surprising connection.

The data also shows interesting overlaps between GTA Online and other popular multiplayer games. EA Sports FC, the rebranded successor to the FIFA series, shares approximately 13% of its player base with GTA Online. Meanwhile, the Call of Duty franchise maintains a 12.3% crossover with Rockstar Games' crime simulator, particularly during launch months for new titles.

The 22% player overlap between GTA Online and Roblox is particularly interesting, especially in light of recent reports that Rockstar had held closed-door meetings with Roblox and Fortnite creators with plans to completely change the franchise's identity following the release of Grand Theft Auto 6.

Grand Theft Auto is more of a sprawling open-world video game franchise than a game creation system driven by user-generated content. However, the game has branched out and become more like the likes of Roblox in recent years. Even though Rockstar continues to clamp down on certain mods and creations, it has slowly loosened its grip in what it's allowing to be made, resulting in all sorts of popular mods that aren't unlike what you see in Roblox and Fortnite.

With the right support, it's easy to see how the successor to GTA Online could resemble an ecosystem that encourages creators to unleash their creativity while players enjoy their creations, similar to what's already happening with Fortnite and Roblox.

Perhaps it's because of this overlap that Rockstar is finally interested in pursuing the UGC route. It might also explain Dring's recent revelation that there is a growing list of video game companies wary about releasing new titles and updates close to GTA 6. Dring revealed that at least three video game publisher are willing to delay their games to 2026 just to avoid GTA 6, with two live-service titles preferring to release their new update before or after the initial months long wave of hype has dissipated.

With Take-Two Interactive preparing to launch a more extensive marketing campaign for GTA 6 starting in April, we'll find out soon enough which upcoming games and updates will try and stay clear of the sixthquel.

But while GTA 6's exact release date remains uncertain, what we can be sure of is that it will continue to be the talk of the town for the foreseeable future. Aside from its release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S/X, GTA 6 is also expected to come to the PC in the future, with another re-release set for the PlayStation 6 and the next Xbox console not long after.

Given the expected dominance of GTA' 6 for most of the 2020s, perhaps Greg Rice, a PlayStation executive, was right to believe that the massive tide that is GTA 6 will lift all video game boats.
