The time has finally come. After what has been a long year, snow has once again fallen in the virtual world of Los Santos, a fictional stand-in for Los Angeles, California, where snow is but a myth the existence of which is doubted by many.
But what would GTA Online be without it?
LATEST GTA NEWS CLIPS
The fine, white, cold-induced crystallization of water covers all of the game's map, allowing players to hurl snowballs at one another in impromptu snowball fights which miraculously aren't always crashed by one asshat with a gun.
Beyond being fantastic screenshot fodder, we've written about how the rarity and thus wonder of the in-game snow binds the community together. Even players living in snow-prone climates are affected by it appearing in a game which otherwsie shows us a world existing in perpetual summer, save for these few precious days.
But, since this is GTA Online, everything needs to be profitable in some manner.
Beyond benefitting from the community being marginally less toxic, players can also win GTA$ 1,000,000 in the Festive Surprise snapmatic contest, which obviously centers on them goofing around in the snow while holiday-themed items are visible.
All that snow also comes with a minor inconvenience - slippery roads.
You'll need a trusty 4x4 to deal with heavy snowfall unless you're particularly interested in checking out ditches up close, and Rockstar has you covered there. The all-new Benefactor Streiter has been added to GTA Online. This is the kind of vehicle which, in real life, is way too expensive to ever see the off-road and thus has precisely zero reason to exist beyond being a status symbol. But luckily your GTA Online cars really are good as new each time you bring them out of the garage.
The Benefactor Streiter is, surprising absolutely no-one, not a car intended for racing, so there isn't much to say about performance beyond it having fantastic traction and handling. It also looks pretty fly, and considering how in-game prices have looked like for the past year, the cost of just GTA$ 500,000 is a Christmas gift on its own already.
Long-time GTA fans will also be happy to see a familiar face making a return on the 25th of December.
Logging in on Christmas day will award all players with a new Albany Hermes muscle car, a ride that previously appeared in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Vice City. The car will be free for people logging in that day, however we have no clue what future availability will look like.
The Hermes is a vintage muscle car through and through, with signature circular lights, raised hood and iconic grille, not to mention the unmistakable silhouette thanks to its bullet-like shape. The car is a real beauty, and is a fantastic gift for players who appreciate vintage vehicles. What's more, this isn't the only thing that logging in on Christmas day will reward you with.
The rest, however, is a surprise.
Continuing on from yesterday's gift of five festive liveries for the new Khanjali tank added in The Doomsday Heist, today it is the Thruster which is in line to get the same festive livery treatment. Simply log in to GTA Online in order to unlock the reward.
Compared to what Rockstar brought to the table in previous years, they are really knocking 2017's holiday season out of the park with fantastic gifts and DLC.
