GTA V's Self-Destructive Schizophrenia

Gta V Story Dlc Rumor

What do GTA V players spend their time doing most, in-game? Playing GTA Online, of course. This is a prime example of the popularity of a game inflating to a point where it genuinely hurts said game (i.e. GTA V itself/the story mode). However, in reality, GTA V is two games, two faces. GTA V and GTA Online are two very different and separate games.

Rockstar keeps updating GTA Online with new and new content, most recently with the massive Freemode Events update, containing over a dozen new activities. More importantly, it reworks the basis on which the multiplayer portion of Rockstar's blockbuster is constructed.

However, the amount of support GTA Online has been getting does bring with it a disadvantage - GTA V (we will refer to the single player portion of the game as such for the purpose of this article) has been almost forgotten.

And that is almost getting closer and closer to an absolute. Rockstar has been dangling the line of Story DLC in front of the community since more or less the initial release of the game back in 2013. Over the months, they subtly hinted at releasing a continuation of Michael, Trevor and Franklin's story, however months then turned into years, and eventually all buzz around the fabled single player DLC died down.

One time it flared up again, and Rockstar came out to comment on the topic for the first time in ages, assuring players that yes, the DLC was indeed coming. However, following this joyous news, Take Two Interactive (Rockstar's parent company) responded with an announcement which amounted to "No, no. No they ain't."

However, the final nail in the coffin of the single player DLC was the release of the Freemode Events DLC for GTA Online. Just GTA Online, that is. The patch rebuilt the very foundations of GTA Online, which merely set it up for even more DLC. GTA Online's success is killing GTA V.

What are your thoughts on the lack of support GTA V is getting?
