GTA Online Live

Download an update for Grand Theft Auto V and you’ll have access to the multiplayer component of the game – Grand Theft Auto Online – starting today. After installing the update, the GTA Online tab should open up under the game menu and you’ll also be able to transport directly into “the GTA Online world” by clicking on the 4th character wheel slot (which represents your online persona).

Currently it will let up to 16 people fight (or work together to fight) it out in the streets of Los Santos. You can do all sorts of activities like street racing, jobs and missions (check out our new heists guide by the way) and essentially causing chaos. There’s also the ability to customize your character (of course) and even create your own content (coming this fall)! Don’t forget those micro-transactions too, which Rockstar confirmed would be present earlier in the week.

As for additional Grand Theft Auto Online details, Rockstar shared a few tidbits of fresh information this morning:

  • The events in GTA Online take place a few months before the events of GTA V (the single player game).
  • If you get invited to a house party you will not be able to “grief” that person and tear up their joint.
  • More missions and jobs will constantly be added.

Speaking personally, we’ve been struggling to do much in GTA Online as it appears that Rockstar’s cloud servers are getting completely and utterly overloaded… How have you gotten on?

Trevor Phillips
Founder of GTA BOOM, Trevor has been a long-time fan of the GTA series but probably isn’t quite as hardcore a gamer as you’d think. When he isn’t tweaking the content on GTA BOOM, you’ll find him working on the server or making other improvements to hopefully make the site better. Other than that, Trevor enjoys getting outside in the sunshine!

  1. Btw, the ps3 title update that is required to access the extremely broken gta online ALSO fixes the infinite money glitch.. the one where you can hover over and under water briefcase, switch to another character, then switch back and collect the money again… fixed. f**king gay.

  2. Can’t host nor join any game. Only a sudden message after some 10-20 secs loading, can create characters and “play solo”, although stuck on the first race thing and the map and submenus are all blank due to the mission dot. Was able to accumulate some 200 punching people in the street until I finally found a convenience store which “had just been robbed” and was able to deposit the money.

That’s about my experience for now. And possibly until next week since this was my only free day this week, I love when things go as they should.
