New GTA 5 Details Leaked from Rockstar Presentation

You might know that Rockstar has been visiting different places in Europe and giving game industry insiders the chance to check out GTA 5 in more detail (i.e. a “live version”). Well, they’ve been to Warsaw in Poland and showed a Reddit user (we’ll call him Jim), who then decided he’d do an AMA (very much likely against a non-disclosure agreement he would’ve signed). The contents of the AMA have since been deleted from Reddit, but we’ve managed to retrieve the juicy details anyway. Check them out below and tell us what you think!

Frame rate was a constant 30 FPS on a PS3 debug unit.

GTA 5 looks at least as good as Red Dead Redemption, with Jim saying, “GTA V has this magical thing called colors… It looked better than [GTA] IV, definitely, but it wasn’t trailer-level. I’m quite sure I’ve noticed aliasing on more than one occasion.”

Gore level is about the same as GTA 4.

A Reddit user made this mock-up design of GTA 5’s HUD based on what Jim was saying:

When you’re aiming, the angle of the camera is similar to that of Max Payne 3 and Red Dead Redemption. There’s also still the familiar “GTA style of realism“, with enemies requiring multiple shots before they go down. Player damage was disabled for the demo (invincibility – cool cheat!) so we’re unsure about that one.

Jim said that water is the best looking part of the game and that while Trevor was swimming, some sharks started to circle him. Jim was also very impressed by the countryside in the game, “How alive countryside felt was nice – while Franklin was parachuting you could see animals running around, when he landed there was pair of fishermen near and deer sipping water across the river.”

To choose weapons you use a weapon wheel similar to that found in Red Dead Redemption and when you bring up a weapon time “slows down, so you could see a rocket shot by Trevor from above hit a car in slow-mo.” Jim also said however that “They [Rockstar] said it could change any minute – that is exactly the kind of things they are fiddling with right now, so keep in mind it could change before release.”

Jim on the radar: “The way that radar content is slightly 3D and rotates with you will make driving a little bit easier, it looked kind of weird with rectangular radar instead of circular, but by the end of the presentation it didn’t bother me, so I doubt it’ll be a big deal.”

PS: the presentation was about 40 minutes long.

When he isn’t tweaking the content on GTA BOOM, you’ll find him working on the server or making other improvements to hopefully make the site better. Other than that, Trevor enjoys getting outside in the sunshine!

  1. As long as the game doesnt lag when multiple explosions are happening then I’m happy with the framerate … I found that << really annoying in gta iv.

  2. This game is gonna be awesome. I would like a cheat mode like invincibility (never before been in a GTA title…)
